To find out what your car is worth in Toronto, enter its year, make, model and mileage above. AshCar prices it against cars listed for sale right now across the Greater Toronto Area, not against a national book value, and returns three numbers: what AshCar would pay you, what the car is worth on the open market, and what one like it would cost you to buy. It is free and there is no obligation.
How AshCar values a car
- 1We hold a live picture of the Ontario market, refreshed from Greater Toronto dealer listings rather than from a quarterly book.
- 2Your year, make and model is matched to the closest comparable listings. If there are not enough of them, we say so and stop rather than averaging a number out of thin air.
- 3The range is adjusted for your mileage, then split into the three numbers above, because a trade-in, a market value and a purchase price are not the same figure and pretending they are is how people lose money.
What moves the number most
- Mileage. The single biggest lever on a used car in Ontario, and the one this tool adjusts for directly.
- Condition and accident history. A clean history report separates two otherwise identical cars by thousands.
- Trim and options. Two cars of the same year and model can sit a full tier apart on price.
- Service records. A documented history is the cheapest thing a seller can bring and it moves offers.
- Season and timing. All-wheel drive prices differently in November than it does in May.
Common questions
- How do I find out what my car is worth in Toronto?
- Enter the year, make, model and mileage above. AshCar compares your car against cars listed for sale right now by Greater Toronto dealers and returns a range for what it would pay you, what the car is worth on the open market, and what one like it would cost you to buy. It is free and there is no obligation.
- Is this a book value like Canadian Black Book?
- No. A book value is a national average built from past transactions. This is priced against cars actually listed for sale in the Greater Toronto Area at the time you ask, so it reflects what the local market is doing this week rather than what it did last quarter.
- Why is a trade-in offer lower than the market value?
- A buyer who takes the car today carries the cost of reconditioning it, holding it on a lot, and the risk that it does not sell. That gap is the difference between the selling number and the market number shown here. Selling privately usually earns more and takes longer.
- Does mileage change the estimate?
- Yes. If you enter a mileage, the range is adjusted against the mileage of the comparable Greater Toronto listings. The page tells you when that adjustment has been applied.
- Is the car valuation free?
- Yes. The range is free and shown immediately. The exact figure is shown once you tell us where to send it, and your details are never sold to anybody.
- Which areas does AshCar cover?
- The Greater Toronto Area, including Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Richmond Hill, Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton and Oshawa. The listings behind every estimate are Ontario listings.
